Seduction and Violence in ‘Crush’

Published

on

This afternoon we were alerted to a new thriller entitled CRUSH, which was directed by John Soto. While the official website doesn’t carry much more than a long synopsis and some behind-the-scenes stills, we’ve been told there’s enough terror for some small coverage here on B-D. Read on for the synopsis and watch for some updates when they come in.
Twenty-something Julian Meadows, a would-be Tae Kwon Do champion, was kicked out of official competition in the USA for underage drinking. Trying to get his life back together, he finds himself studying architecture at university in Perth, Western Australia.

Life is looking up. Julian’s doing well at uni and he’s made good friends in Phil, Wesley and Logan. He’s made a sporting comeback, gaining a spot in the upcoming finals of the Australian Tae Kwon Do Championships.

Julian is also in love with Clare, a fellow student, and their relationship is getting serious with plans to move in together. But those plans are thrown into disarray when Samantha, Julian’s boss and sponsor of his student visa, pressures him into taking a last minute job: house-sitting a fabulous mansion in an exlusive part of Perth.

Julian takes up residence. The next day he’s surprised to find a mysterious and strikingly beautiful young woman swimming in the pool. Calling herself Anna, Julian assumes she is the homeowner’s niece he’d been told would drop by for a swim.

But Anna wants much more than a simple swim. She seduces Julian and declares she loves him. Unable to escape her attentions, Julian’s life starts falling apart. Anna destroys any chance of reconciliation with Clare: she wants Julian all to herself. But there is more to Anna than meets the eye ……

The Wayans are out to cancel the Cancel Culture with Scary Movie, and the cast assures it will do just that.

“They sort of have an across-the-board style,” Anna Faris tells EW. “It’s always been a part of the Wayans Brothers, their electricity. ‘Can we offend you? Will you still love us? Come on, you still love us, don’t you?'”

Regina Hall concurs, promising the “boundary-pushing” sixth installment in the horror parody franchise will “offend everyone.”

EW has shared a batch of behind-the-scenes images from Scary Movie, which hits theaters June 5 via Paramount.

Faris and Hall are joined by fellow franchise favorites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams in the legacy sequel.

The ensemble includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, and Felissa Rose.

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directs from a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, original Scary Movie director Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Rick Alvarez (A Haunted House).

The film will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and everyfinal chapterthat absolutely isn’t final.

Scary Movie launched in 2000, followed by Scary Movie 2 in 2001. The Wayans’ involvement ended there, but the series continued with 2003’s Scary Movie 3, 2006’s Scary Movie 4, and 2013’s Scary Movie 5.
