Rob Hall’s Almost Human FX on ‘Crazies’ Remake
We learned this past weekend that Rob Hall’s Almost Human FX will be tackling Overture Films’ The Crazies, their remake of the classic George A. Romero film being helmed by Breck Eisner. Almost Human is responsible for the FX in QUARANTINE, VACANCY, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and the ongoing TERMINATOR series, THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES. “As a fan of the original we are super excited to be working on this re-imagining of the cult film,” Hall tells B-D when we called to confirm the news. “The script is excellent. One of the best I’ve read in recent memory and there’s more than plenty to keep us busy. It definitely delivers.” Starring Timothy Olyphant, the film is slated for release on September 25th. Jennifer E. Montgomery makes her feature directorial debut from a script she co-wrote with director of photography Andrew Davis, inspired by Montgomery’s first-hand experience with tragedy involving her best friend.
“Months before the incident, there were signals that her world was unraveling,” says Montgomery. “I could feel the pressure building, though I didn’t know what form it would take. I never could have known what violence would come, and I certainly never imagined making a film about it.”
Austin Stowell (“NCIS: Origins”), Suraj Sharma (Happy Death Day 2U), Mojean Aria (Reminiscence), Amol Shah (“For All Mankind”), and Zenobia Shroff (“Ms. Marvel”) round out the cast.
