‘Ghostbusters 3’ Tid-Bit — Bill Murray Explains Himself

Published

on

It’s easy to sit behind a computer and make judgment (whoops), but a lot of time we don’t know the full skinny – whether it’s true or not, that’s another story. Comedian/star Bill Murray has been getting a hefty portion of blame when it comes to the delay of Ghostbusters 3, but the star is speaking out with his side of the fiasco that sounds a lot more lighthearted. You can see his interpretation by reading below. My advice? Shut up and make the movie already before our expectations are way too high.
You know, it’s really the studio starts this stuff,” Murray told Comingsoon. “They start saying ‘Ghostbusters.’ They want to do (it) and it’s really the world of sequels and bringing these things back again, and then some wiseacre said, ‘Hey, we got a couple of new writers who are gunna [sic] write something.’ And I thought, ‘Oh, well, maybe there’ll be some writers’ and there was always this joke, sort of a half-true, half-joke thing like, ‘Well, I’ll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.’ That was my joke, you know? So supposedly someone was writing a script where I actually got killed in the first reel and became a ghost, which I thought, ‘Well, that’s kind of clever anyway.’ But then these guys that were supposedly the writers that were going to do it, they wrote a film that came out and people saw the film* and went… ‘We’re not going to do it after all, are we?’ So it’s just a kind of a dreamy thing. They want to create a new generation of Ghostbusters, you know? They’d just like us to pass the torch.

(*Presumably that was Harold Ramis’ last movie Year One.)

Paul Dano Joins Parker Finn’s ‘Possession’ Remake

Paul Dano in The Batman

Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 psychological horror movie Possession is getting a remake from Smile writer/director Parker Finn, and Deadline reports that The Batman actor Paul Dano has joined the cast.

No word at this time on character details, though.

The original film starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill as a married couple in Cold War-era West Berlin whose relationship spirals into a supernatural nightmare. In Finn’s update, Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner will star as the turbulent couple in Finn’s Possession, and Adjani has officially given her blessing on Qualley’s casting.

Parker Finn is writing and directing the new take on Possession.

He’s also producing alongside Jonathan Fass via Bad Feeling, along with Roy Lee and Andrew Childs via Vertigo, and Robert Pattinson. Marc Bienstock is serving as exec producer.

Our own Brian Keiper celebrated Possession‘s 40th anniversary here on BD back in 2021, writing: “Few movies depict emotional turmoil as effectively and daringly as Andrzej Zulawksi’s Possession. It is a challenging and sometimes inscrutable film, both for the mind and the emotions. Zulawski struggles through a number of deep issues throughout the course of the film; issues that speak to some of humanity’s deepest pains and fears. In many ways it is about loss— loss of political ideals, loss of faith, and loss of innocence. But most of all, Possession is about the fear, pain, and anger that comes from the loss of a marriage.”

This will mark Dano’s first horror role. The actor previously appeared in sci-fi hits Looper and Okja.
