When you think of the French horror genre, most of you will immediately think of directors Alex Aja, Alexandre Bustillo, Julien Maury, Xavier Gens and Pascal Lautier. While those guys directed some of the best films in the past decade, it’s hard to ignore the talent of Fabrice du Welz, the man behind both Calvaire and Vinyan. It was announced today that Welz will be telling the tale of real-life serial killers in Alleluia, and have tapped the creepy Béatrice Dalle (Inside) to star! Read on for the skinny.
Fabrice du Welz stirs up serial killers.

Producer Michael Gentile’s The Film is prepping the next project from Fabrice du Welz, Alleluia. It will be based on the true story of 1940s serial killers Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez.

The Calvaire and Vinyan director is planning a road movie based on the true story of 1940s serial killers Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez. Du Welz has co-written the script with Vincent Tavier and has cast Beatrice Dalle (pictured below), Bouli Lanners and Virginie Efira. He will begin shooting in early 2011.

Raymond Fernandez and his common-law wife Martha Beck became known as “The Lonely Hearts Killers” after their arrest and trial for serial murder in 1949. Between 1947 and 1949 they are believed to have killed as many as 20 women. The 1970 movie The Honeymoon Killers, the 1996 movie Deep Crimson, the 2006 movie Lonely Hearts, and an episode of the TV series Cold Case were all based on this case. – Wiki

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
