Random Cool: ‘Ghostbusters’-themed Cake!

Published

on

I stopped watching Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes” because owner Duff Goldman and his motley crew had this horrible habit of building their “epic” cakes out of wire, pipes and wood — not exactly edible. I call that cheating. Still, some of their exterior designs end up being quite cool, such as Charm City Cakes’ “Ghostbusters”-themed dessert that features a pair of Busters and the angry Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Even cooler, and super logical, is that the cake lights up in the dark. I’m assuming the birthday boy or girl was a double bagger? Check out the “sweet” cake inside.

Based on a treatment that was written by horror master George A. Romero before he passed away, the upcoming Twilight of the Dead is positioning itself as the final chapter in Romero’s legendary zombie saga, with Kate Beckinsale set to star in the upcoming film.

The Paz Brothers (JeruzalemThe Golem) will be directing Twilight of the Dead, and the website Daily Dead has learned that Greg Nicotero has joined the filmmaking team as well.

Daily Dead got the scoop from Nicotero at the Living Dead Weekend event this past weekend, which took place inside the Monroeville Mall from Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.

The outlet explains, “[Greg Nicotero] exclusively shared with me that he has joined the upcoming production of Twilight of the Dead to handle special makeup effects for the film, which comes as very welcome news! Of course, our readers are no strangers to the jaw-dropping work of Nicotero and his team on The Walking Dead, along with his work on Day of the Dead, the Creepshow TV series, and so much more. Like many Romero fans, I’m very excited to see Romero’s last zombie story and there is no one better to bring the movie’s zombies to life than Nicotero. When speaking with Nicotero, he expressed his excitement to join the project, stating that he has a vested interest in preserving Romero’s legacy.”

Greg Nicotero of course had a long history with George A. Romero, working on various Romero projects including Day of the Dead, Monkey Shines, and Land of the Dead.

The upcoming Twilight of the Dead is set on a decimated earth where the last vestiges of humanity are trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat.

Magenta Light Studios (Strange DarlingDeep Water) has secured the North American rights and is due to distribute the film in theaters across the U.S. and Canada.

“Stepping into Romero’s world is the ultimate privilege for any genre filmmaker,” the Paz Brothers said in a joint statement. “This is more than a continuation; it’s a responsibility. We are committed to honoring his voice while delivering a visceral, terrifying, impactful experience for today’s audience that resonates beyond the screen.”
