‘Shark Night 3D’ Could Be Titled ‘Untitled 3D Shark Thriller’?!
David R. Ellis played mouse and followed the path of cheese when New Line Cinema released his hilariously-titled Snakes on a Plane. This time around, Ellis hopes to avoid the name game and just say it how it is, which would be an interesting gimmick on its own.
The director tells NY Mag that he actually is fighting for Shark Night 3D to be titled Untitled 3D Shark Thriller, a very honest and direct title:
“I hated the original title [Shark Night 3D], too,” says Ellis, reached in his editing bay, “so at our weekly production meetings, I made everyone on the crew come up with names — Chums, Fins, Terror on the Lake — but they all seemed kind of cheesy. And so until I hear a better name, I like what we’ve got right now: Untitled 3D Shark Thriller. The title says everything you need to know: ‘We’ve got sharks.’ ‘It’s in 3D.’ and, ‘It’s a thriller.’”
Relativity will have to work fast on approving a title as they’ll need to soon begin marketing the film for release this coming September.
Starring Sinqua Walls, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Thesps Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, and Katharine McPhee, Shark Night revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. The hope is that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation.

Adam Wingard’s ‘Onslaught’ Receives ‘R’ Rating for Strong Bloody Violence and Sexual Material
Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) is getting back to his roots with the A24 movie Onslaught, and the film has received an ‘R’ rating from the MPA this week.
Releasing in theaters on September 4, Adam Wingard’s Onslaught is Rated ‘R’ for “Strong bloody violence, some gore, sexual material/nudity, and language.”
Watch the previously released Onslaught trailer below.
The duo behind The Guest, director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, are re-teaming for the upcoming Onslaught, which stars Adria Arjona in the leading role.
Here’s the synopsis: “When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.”
Rebecca Hall (The Night House, Godzilla x Kong) and Dan Stevens (The Guest) also star in Adam Wingard’s upcoming new movie Onslaught alongside Michael Biehn, Reginald VelJohnson, Eric Wareheim, Drew Starkey, and Alex “Poatan” Pereira.
Wingard has spent the past several years making Hollywood blockbusters including Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the idea behind Onslaught is to get back to his filmmaking roots. Onslaught looks very much in line with Wingard’s fan favorite The Guest, so much so that fans have been speculating that it’s set in the very same universe.
Dan Stevens starred alongside Maika Monroe in 2014 action-thriller The Guest. He played a mysterious ex-soldier with a secret agenda who wreaks havoc on a small town.
At the very least, The Guest and Onslaught look to be cut from the same cloth.
And yes, Dan Stevens is in both of them!
