Comic-Con ’11: Concept Art for ‘Seventh Son’ and ‘Paradise Lost’

Published

The boys over at Cinemablend decided to take photos of the concept art on display at the San Diego Comic-Con panel for upcoming Warner Bros. films (you know, the panel for three non-comic films that aren’t even shot yet).

One of the two projects is Alex Proyas’ Paradise Lost, the Bradley Cooper-starrer that will be shot using motion capture technology. The project tells the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer, and will be crafted as an action vehicle that will include aerial warfare, possibly shot in 3D. Inside you’ll find the concept art featuring some of the rough terrains being conceptualized.

Also shared with the Comic-Con audience was art for Sergei Bodrov’s The Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Ben Barnes and Alicia Vikander. Barnes will star as “Tom Ward”, a young boy training to be an exorcist in the 1700’s and must learn how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches, and bind boggarts. Trouble begins when he’s tricked into releasing the most evil witch in the world. Jeff Bridges has signed on to star as an exorcist. The Seventh Son was formerly known as The Spook’s Apprentice and is part of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s young adult series “The Last Apprentice.” It is based on the first book in the trilogy “The Wardstone Chronicles.”

Austrian filmmakers Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (The Lodge, Goodnight Mommy) are back with new horror movie The Devil’s Bath, and it’s coming to Shudder this summer.

The Devil’s Bath debuts on Shudder June 28, Variety reports today.

The film makes its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for the German-language horror movie: “In 1750 Austria, a deeply religious woman named Agnes has just married her beloved, but her mind and heart soon grow heavy as her life becomes a long list of chores and expectations. Day after day, she is increasingly trapped in a murky and lonely path leading to evil thoughts, until the possibility of committing a shocking act of violence seems like the only way out of her inner prison.”

Anja PlaschgDavid ScheidMaria HofstätterCamilla Schielin, and Lorenz Tröbinger star. You can check out a first look image above. Expect the trailer in the coming weeks.

The filmmakers tell Variety, “We want to see the world how it is, and that’s of course sometimes very difficult and painful, but I think we owe it to ourselves and other human beings to be honest about everything that’s not great in the world. Many movies just depict the world as a humongous place that’s amazing to live in. We think sometimes that’s not true and feel the responsibility to look into those pieces.”

The Devil’s Bath is produced by Heimatfilm Productions and Ulrich Seidl Productions as a co-production with Heimatfilm and Coop99 Filmproduktion.
