Two weeks back Bloody exclusively reports that Mia Kirshner (“The L Word,” 388 Arletta Avenue, The Black Dahlia) Erik Knudsen (Scream 4, Saw II) and J Larose (Insidious, Saw III) have all signed on to join Stephen Moyer (“True Blood,” The Caller) in Darren Lynn Bousman’s The Barrens, now filming in the Toronto area.

This morning we also confirmed that Allie MacDonald (House at the End of the Street), Max Topplin (Dead Before Dawn 3D, “Fringe”) and Peter DaCunha will also be joining the psychological horror.

In the film Cynthia Marlow (Kirshner) joins her husband Richard (Moyer), stepdaughter Sadie, and young son for a weekend camping trip in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Family bonding turns to horror when Richard falls ill and becomes convinced they are being stalked by the legendary creature of the Barrens: the Jersey Devil.

Bousman will see the release of his religious horror 11-11-11 in the coming months. He also directed the remake of Mother’s Day and Saw II-IV.

Blood Shine Trailer

Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks, the married writing-directing duo behind the pandemic horror movie Alone With You, are back with the new horror movie Blood Shine.

Blood Shine is coming to theaters, VOD, and Digital on August 21 from Dark Sky Films.

Set in a desolate expanse of upstate New York, Blood Shine centers around Clara, a religious zealot who worships light in lonely, sacred rituals. When problematic horror director Brighton West travels upstate to finish the screenplay for his next film, a chance encounter with Clara leads him into a hallucinatory web of faith, flesh, and the sublime.

Bennett also stars in the film, in addition to writing and directing with Brooks.

Brendan Sexton III (Session 9), David Call (Insidious: The Red Door), Larry Fessenden (You’re Next), and Toby Poser (Recluse, Hellbender) also star.

“We are thrilled to bring Blood Shine to North American audiences,” added Dark Sky executive vice president Greg Newman. “Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks have created a daring and visually arresting film that expands the boundaries of folk horror and really delivers.”

Producers include Aaron B. Koontz via Paper Street Pictures (Shelby Oaks, Scare Package) and Alexander Schepsman, Garrett Fennelly and Zeus Kontoyannis via Zeus Pictures.

Ashleigh Snead and Cameron Burns serve as co-producers for Paper Street. Michael McFadden, G. Riley Mills, and Matt Sullivan executive produce.

Watch the new trailer below that introduces an eerie Larry Fessenden as a faith figure with a sadistic streak.
