[News Bites] SWAT Confiscates ‘World War Z’ Arsenal, Behind-the-Scenes of ‘Dracula 3D’ and ‘R.I.P.D.’
On Monday, a SWAT team raided a Budapest warehouse holding weapons being used in Brad Pitt’s upcoming zombie movie World War Z, writes US Magazine. “The film is already over budget and over schedule,” a source tells the site. “Brad is furious.” Police seized 85 fully-functional weapons, most of which were automatic, military-style assault rifles. The problem, a source says, is that the guns came with paperwork claiming they were non-functional — but they’re actually in working order.

The film is based on the original novel by Bram Stroker, about the vampire Dracula, an icon of twentieth century culture.
Carrie-Anne Moss talked to IFC about her role as “Claudia Wolf” in Lionsgate’s Silent Hill: Revelation, stating she didn’t play any of the games, but reflected at the character from “Silent Hill 3”: ““It definitely was part of the conversation with the director, looking at a lot of different footage. And then ultimately this crazy wig and this crazy costume helped me go, there I was! … The dialogue, too. This woman was powerful and slightly insane, but a zealot who totally believed in what she was doing. So it was pretty intense.” Michael J. Bassett directed the sequel arriving some time in 2012.
Boston.com went behind-the-scenes of R.I.P.D., being filmed on Batterymarch Street in the Financial District over the weekend. Spotted on set were the movie’s villain, Kevin Bacon, and actress Stephanie Szostak, who plays the wife of the film’s hero, Ryan Reynolds. Bacon wore one of those crazy-looking CGI suits while Szostak hung upside down from a crane. Check out tewo videos inside. R.I.P.D. is planned for a June 28, 2013 release.

New Documentaries Explore the Cult Legacies of ‘The Keep’ and ‘Wolfen’; Watch the Trailers Now [Exclusive]
Undersung werewolf gem Wolfen and Michael Mann’s The Keep get the spotlight in a pair of feature documentaries acquired by Antenna Releasing.
A World War II Fairy Tale, which covers the infamous production of and reception to The Keep, will receive a limited theatrical release in October, followed by a TVOD release on Apple/Amazon. The Keep will also screen as a double feature for some showings.
For Uncovering Wolfen, Antenna eyes a limited theatrical release for 2027. Both films are currently available for booking via Antenna prior to their theatrical and digital releases.
Both documentaries are directed by Stewart Buck, who co-helms with Stéphane Piter on A World War II Fairy Tale.
“We at Antenna are obsessed with film history,” said Chief Acquisitions Officer Billy Ray Brewton. “Stewart has done such a remarkable job of really diving into the deepest recesses of how these films were made and, in doing so, has created the definitive histories of both projects.”
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Antenna Releasing!” said director Buck. “It’s refreshing to see a filmmaker-friendly approach to distribution with people who know what it’s like to be in the trenches with independent projects that struggle to find a home in the crowded marketplace.”

Released in 1983, Michael Mann’s The Keep was a notorious box office bomb, critically lambasted and all but forgotten for years, save for the fascination with Tangerine Dream’s iconic score. In recent years, the film has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence and is widely considered a cult classic, though director Michael Mann and many cast members refuse to acknowledge it.
Wolfen, on the other hand, was critical success but was overshadowed heavily by its flashier 1981 siblings An American Werewolf in London and The Howling. It’s also a trailblazer for socio-political horror, and the doc will explore that via the craftspeople who made it.
