Watch The Short That Inspired Guillermo Del Toro-Produced ‘Mama’
TheFilmExperience has shared the below first look at star Jessica Chastain on the set of Mama, a horror project at Universal being directed by Andres Muschietti and executive produced by Guillermo Del Toro.
The film itself is an extrapolation from Muschietti’s short of the same name from 2008 with Neil Cross (“Luther”) adapting the material from Muschietti’s original script, a collaboration with his sister Barbara. The short has made its way online and can also be viewed after the break!
“The movie tells the story of a couple – Chastain and “Game Of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau – who take in their long-lost young nieces and nephews. The kids were found after living in the forest for five years but now murderous events begin to unfold and it becomes clear that a supernatural force is intent on claiming the kids.”
Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.
The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
