[AFM ’12] Official Trailer and Art For ‘The Seasoning House’, Anchor Bay Canada Acquires Danielle Harris’ ‘Among Friends’
Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada and Three Little Birds Productions acquired Among Friends for home video in Canada. This new horror film marks the directorial debut of scream queen Danielle Harris and is the story of a group of friends who get together for a murder mystery party, but things take a dark turn when one hijacks the evening and is out for blood.
“Among Friends is a twisted horror film about a dinner party gone wrong. Set against an 80s backdrop, good times take a dark turn when one in the group hijacks the evening in the name of Integrity. Through an attempt to help the others come clean about secret betrayals against one another, it’s revealed who’s willing to cut through the bone to expose the truth.”
In other news, Kaleidoscope Film Distributors shares the official trailer and poster for The Seasoning House, which follows an orphaned girl, imprisoned and put to work in a brothel by local militia, plots a bloody and brutal revenge against her captors. Paul Hyett (The SFX genius behind The Descent, Eden Lake, The Woman in Black) directs Rosie Day, Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon, Dog Soldiers, Equilibrium), Kevin Howarth and Anna Walton (Hellboy 2, Mutant Chronicles).
“‘The Seasoning House’ is a grim and soulless place where young girls are bought and sold for men’s pleasure. Here we meet Angel (Rosie Day), a young, orphaned girl enslaved by Viktor (Kevin Howarth). Unbeknownst to her master, she moves between the walls and crawlspaces of the house – silently observing, learning and planning for her escape. When her closest confident is savagely killed, Angel can no longer contain her rage and sets out through both ingenuity and brutality to seek justice.“

‘Hokum’ Heads Home to Digital Tomorrow Ahead of Physical Media Release in August
After scaring up a strong theatrical run, Oddity director Damian McCarthy’s Hokum heads home to Digital this week.
Settle in for a spooky supernatural chiller as Hokum arrives on all Digital platforms to rent or own beginning June 2, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.
Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars in Hokum as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.
Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) also star.
Get a peek at the upcoming physical media release below, including a few special features.
Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) & Steven Schneider (Insidious) produce alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, & Mairtín de Barra, and Cweature Features’ Ken Kao & Josh Rosenbaum.
I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “A quaint Irish hotel with a deeply haunted history awaits an American writer in McCarthy’s third outing, continuing his streak for folkloric tales of supernatural karma and spine-tingling terror with a dark sense of humor.”
What’s next from Damian McCarthy? He’s currently writing a haunted house movie, but recent comments suggest he may be moving into other genres beyond that upcoming project.
