‘Frankenweenie’ Home Video Release Includes Never-Before-Seen Short Film!

When Tim Burton’s fantastic Frankenweenie (read our review) arrives on DVD and Blu-ray January 8 it will come rocking a super sweet extra feature.

According to USA Today, the home video release will include “Captain Sparky vs. the Flying Saucers,” another movie-within-a-movie, which finds Sparky recruited into duty when the most low-budget alien spacecraft ever begins attacking the planet. Frankenweenie‘s animation supervisor Mark Waring helmed the short.

The Frankenweenie voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas), Martin Short (Mars Attacks), and Martin Landau (Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow), along with Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer.

“A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.“

One of my personal favorite horror movies of all time, 1987’s gateway horror classic The Gate is opening back up on May 14 with a brand new Blu-ray SteelBook release from Lionsgate!

The new release will feature fresh SteelBook artwork from Vance Kelly, seen below.

When best friends Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry (Louis Tripp) stumble across a mysterious crystalline rock in Glen’s backyard, they quickly dig up the newly sodden lawn searching for more precious stones.
