In This New ‘Centration’ Video A Crash Test Dummy Pirouettes In Outer Space

Published

on

If you’re a fan of lonely starships that are littered with panels to interact with (for opening/closing doors and such), ominous sci-fi music, and watching crash test dummies commit suicide — self-termination, rather? — then this new Centration gameplay video was practically made just for you. It’s in alpha right now, so it’s a little rough. Okay, a lot rough, but it’s definitely promising. See it in action after the break.

After watching this first gameplay tease, I’m a little torn.

Visually, it’s a little too bright and colorful. I’m sure the levels they’re showing off are still very much unfinished, including the art, but unless they have a massive change coming up, I don’t love it.

I’ve been following this game for a while because it sounds amazing. Basically, it’s a multiplayer sandbox horror game set in the cold, lonely black that is outer space. If this looks like something you might be interested in, you can (and should) vote for Centration to help it get distribution on Steam Greenlight.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
