Published

on

This July, Boom! Studios is going to be re-printing Steven Grant and Mike Zeck original series, “Damned”. Continuing with the trend of bringing pulpy action back to comics, the story follows Mick Thorne who is released from prison. His new mission is to deliver a message to his dead cellmate’s sister. As you can imagine, this brings on the attention of some seedy crime families, and before you know it Mick is in way over his head. The book is slated for release on July 31st, 2013.

Official Press Release:

June 5th, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA – In July, BOOM! Studios will bring back into print the classic Steven Grant and Mike Zeck original series, DAMNED. This new collection will arrive in stores just ahead of the release of the 2 GUNS feature film on August 2nd, starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg.

In a world of lies, honor can be murder…2 GUNS creator Steven Grant (3 GUNS, ROBOCOP: LAST STAND) reunites with his artist from THE PUNISHER: CIRCLE OF BLOOD, Mike Zeck (THE PUNISHER, SECRET WARS), for a truly hard-hitting crime noir story that will knock you senseless!

“Damned was the last major collaboration between Mike Zeck and me, the final result of an investigation into the possibilities of crime comics that we’d begun with The Punisher mini-series and Return To Big Nothing,” explains Grant. “It’s very gratifying to have a publisher like Boom! respond so strongly to it, and very exciting to have it back in print for a new audience.”

When Mick Thorne is paroled and released from prison, the only thing on his mind is keeping a promise. But in keeping that promise to deliver a message to his dead cellmate’s sister, he draws the attention of the local crime boss. This sharply designed collection of the classic noir in the vein of Richard Stark’s PARKER novels includes the entire series plus a brand new foreword by Grant and character studies by Zeck.

DAMNED will arrive in stores on July 31st, 2013 and is available for order under Diamond order code MAY130950. The 144-page, full color soft cover collection retails for $16.99.

Published

on

IDW Dark and Paramount recently joined forces to launch limited comic book tales set in the worlds of Smile and A Quiet Place, and we’ve learned today that they’ll continue hanging around in those franchise universes with two brand new limited series tales.

Entertainment Weekly has exclusively revealed this afternoon that IDW Dark’s Any Given Smile debuts in September, while A Quiet Place: Rising Tides arrives in November.

First up, from writer Stephanie Williams and artist Pablo CollarAny Given Smile puts a football-themed twist on Parker Finn’s successful Smile movie franchise.

The five-part limited series is “set in January 1995, during the American Arena League football championship game in St. Augustine, Florida. The rising superstar of the Sharks, backup quarterback Dupree, is feeling the pressure from his teammates, the fans, and also the city’s gambling underworld, to whom he owes a considerable debt. Meanwhile, a sports journalist investigates a string of suicides that may be connected to the big game. At the very least, they are connected to a sinister entity that preys on the minds of its victims.”

From writer Declan Shalvey and artist Luke SparrowA Quiet Place: Rising Tides will also be a five-issue limited story. The comic book tale “brings the creatures to the Florida Keys, where a father-daughter duo attempt to survive on water in a houseboat.”

EW further details, “This tense family reunion coincides with the arrival of the vicious creatures that hunt through sound. Grace and her dad find safety on the open ocean, but she’ll have to make landfall sooner or later; the father’s oxygen tank and their supplies are running low, while a hurricane swiftly approaches.”
