J.J. Abrams Teases Us With ‘Stranger’ Viral; What Is It?!!!

Published

JJ Abrams is the master at keeping a tight lip on his projects (he calls it “the mystery box”), which I love because it leads to a heavy amount of anticipation for each film. What he did with Cloverfield was had us all literally freaking out online, and then took it to an entirely new level with Super 8. He’s up to his old tricks with a new top secret project just teased on his Bad Robot Productions YouTube page.

What is Stranger? Well, nobody knows exactly, but there is one clue – at the end of the teaser there’s a visual of a man with his lips sewn shut. It also opens with a shot of the stars and some dialogue that makes me believe it’s alien related. I guess we’ll just have to be patient and wait for more clues from the “mystery box” to be released.

He arrived knowing nothing of himself. Who is he? Soon he will know. Because what begins at the water shall end there. And what ends there shall once more begin. This is what happens when we become lost, when we vanish, when we are erased and reborn.

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
