[Interview] Gojira’s Joe Duplantier On New Album, French Horror Movies, And More
A friend of mine asked me to name some bands that Gojira sounds like. I honestly drew a blank. I know of bands that have influenced the French metal outfit but I truly can’t think of any bands that sound like them. They’re just one of those rare bands that are completely unique, offering a fresh approach to the genre that is fierce, brutal, and incredibly fascinating. Add to all of this the fact that the band is incredibly concerned about the environment, the planet we live on, and the well-being of people as a whole, and you have band that transcends stereotypes.
I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time with guitarist/vocalist Joe Duplantier during their current tour with Slayer and 4ARM. We discussed the status of a new album, the Sea Shepherd EP (which features Devin Townsend), French horror films, and much more. Check out this exclusive interview below!

Jennifer E. Montgomery makes her feature directorial debut from a script she co-wrote with director of photography Andrew Davis, inspired by Montgomery’s first-hand experience with tragedy involving her best friend.
“Months before the incident, there were signals that her world was unraveling,” says Montgomery. “I could feel the pressure building, though I didn’t know what form it would take. I never could have known what violence would come, and I certainly never imagined making a film about it.”
Austin Stowell (“NCIS: Origins”), Suraj Sharma (Happy Death Day 2U), Mojean Aria (Reminiscence), Amol Shah (“For All Mankind”), and Zenobia Shroff (“Ms. Marvel”) round out the cast.
