‘The Sacrament’ Gets A Less Violent Trailer
Magnet shared with us the official green band trailer for Ti West’s The Sacrament (read our review), his found-footage horror based on the horrifying true story of the Jonestown massacre.
Opening on iTunes/On Demand May 1, 2014 and in theaters June 6, 2014, “The Sacramentfollows two Vice Media correspondents as they set out to document their friend’s journey to find his missing sister. They travel outside of the United States to an undisclosed location where they are welcomed into the world of “Eden Parish,” a self-sustained rural utopia, comprised of nearly two hundred members. At the center of this small, religious, socialist community is a mysterious leader known only as “Father.” As their friend reunites with his sister, it becomes apparent to the newcomers that this paradise may not be as it seems. What started as just another documentary shoot soon becomes a race to escape with their lives.“
Directed by West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, V/H/S) and produced by Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever, The Last Exorcism, Aftershock, The Green Inferno), the film stars Joe Swanberg (V/H/S, You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die), AJ Bowen (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die, The House of the Devil, The Signal), Kentucker Audley (V/H/S), Amy Seimetz (You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, Tiny Furniture) and Gene Jones (No Country for Old Men).

John Carpenter Curates Two-Night Horror Programming Event For Turner Classic Movies This July
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has announced its July programming highlights, which include a celebration of independent filmmaking and a special two-night genre event curated and co-hosted by horror legend John Carpenter.
In recognition of Independence Day, TCM Spotlight: American Independents “traces the evolution of American independent filmmaking through a collection of groundbreaking films made outside the traditional Hollywood studio system.”
This series highlights pioneering artists and maverick filmmakers who helped reshape the landscape of American cinema. Look for landmark works from Ida Lupino, Ed Wood, George A. Romero, John Waters, and David Lynch to be included in the roster of filmmakers spotlighted in the collection.
TCM also presents The Carpenter Zone this July, a two-night programming event curated and co-hosted by John Carpenter.
Instead of programming Carpenter’s films, though, the filmmaker is highlighting genre films that inspired his own works. The lineup includes The Quatermass Xperiment (1955), Them! (1954), It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958), The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), The Mummy (1959), and Curse of the Demon (1957).
Throughout the two-night event, Carpenter will share introductions and commentary on the films that helped shape his lifelong love of genre filmmaking.
Additional programming details, including daily schedules, are available at TCM.com.
