Preview Kyle Newmaster’s ‘Something Wicked’ Soundtrack (Exclusive)
Bloody-Disgusting has teamed up with Lakeshore Records to bring you an exclusive first listen to Kyle Newmaster‘s score for Something Wicked, Brittany Murphy’s final movie. The 11:30 minute video below features 30-seconds from each track on the upcoming album, which can be pre-ordered via iTunes.
Newmaster states, “I also had a blast scoring the tense more traditional horror moments in the film. I really enjoy writing tense, dark, orchestral music and combining it with other sounds and elements. For these scenes I did quite a bit of recording with live orchestral musicians in which we recorded a variety of textural and aleatoric sounds.”
The hauntingly seductive thriller about obsession and young love gone wrong stars Shantel VanSanten (Gang Related, One Tree Hill, Final Destination), John Robinson (upcoming Peter Bogdanovich movie, “Big Sur, Lords of Dogtown), Julian Morris (Once Upon a Time, Pretty Little Liars, Valkyrie), James Patrick Stuart (Supernatural, Hot in Cleveland) and Brittany Murphy (8 Mile, Uptown Girls, Clueless).
Head to the film’s official website to see dates, locations, and showtimes for the limited release.
Newcastle added, “One example of a cue that I really enjoyed writing in this style is ‘Serious Breakdown’. It’s a cue that starts very haunting and tense and then builds up to a moment where the audience might sense something terrible is going to happen, but it makes a very quick transition from horror to sadness as an element about one of the characters is revealed. I really enjoy scoring scenes that require that kind of musical complexity and depth.”
