Weinstein Company Wins ‘The Coup’ Bidding War

The Weinstein Company is entering into exclusive negotiations to acquire North American rights to flaming hot Cannes title The Coup after a bidding battle.

Variety writes that the company is understood to be paying some $5 million for the John Erick Dowdle-directed title, which stars Pierce Brosnan and Owen Wilson.

The Thailand-set thriller “follows an American family that relocates to SE Asia, but finds themselves caught in the middle of violent political uprising.

The Dowdle brothers, pictured, have directed The Poughkeepsie Tapes, Quarantine and Devil.

It is financed by Bold Films. Rights in international markets are repped by Sierra/Affinity.
