Non-news: a term I coined for news that isn’t really news, per se, but still delivers traffic.
There’s two big stories roaming around the Web, neither have substance, but both are fun to talk about.
First, AITH talked with Peter Berg, star of Wes Craven’s 1989 horror classic Shocker. For whatever reason, they asked him about the long-gestured remake. He responded playfully, “I’d love to remake it,” clarifying that he wouldn’t direct, “No, Wes would direct it, I’d star in it.”
To be clear, this does not mean for a second that he is involved. It just means that, assuming Wes were to invite him to participate, he would consider being part of it. In the original, after being sent to the electric chair, a serial killer uses electricity to come back from the dead and carry out his vengeance on the football player who turned him in to the police.
Another piece of non-news comes via the Global Post who attempts to debunk rumors that Alfonso Cuaron is in talks to direct “Overlook Hotel,” the television spinoff to The Shining.
Explains the site, Cuaron said he is “a big fan” of the film directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1980, but he said that he’s not up to date with the news saying that he would be a possible director for the prequel.
This means nothing as talent usually stay mum on a project as their people negotiate. For all we know he could be fantasizing about what he’d do and plans to eventually share it with a studio. If he were to decide not to do the project, it makes both sides look bad. This is why they refute everything.
I believe the initial report, and wouldn’t be shocked to see Cuaron behind the camera for the pilot and executive producer for the series. That’s series coin, fellas. Even the director of Gravity couldn’t turn that down…
