I’m not sure how many people this site polled to make this chart, but it’s an interesting look into viewing habits of the casual horror fan. Again, there’s no text telling us how many people were surveyed, but the graph does convey a belief I’ve long held – that the “most watched” horror movies aren’t necessarily the ones that were the biggest hits at the box office.
A lot of people catch up with the genre on home video, streaming or cable based upon the recommendations of their friends. A lot of the fuel for this seems to be “holy sh*t” moments (ie “you won’t believe what happens in this f*ckin’ movie”), which explains the Saw franchise dominance.
Then again, it could all be BS. I mean, more people than that have seen Jaws, right? And a lot of this would depend on how the questions were phrased. Also, who did they poll? There are some surprising omissions.
