‘The Hunger Games’: President Snow’s Panem Address Is Evil Propaganda

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

Those of you who don’t like that we cover The Hunger Games should note that we quickly abandoned the Twilight franchise when we realized it wasn’t for you. Say what you will about the first two Hunger Games films, but we loved them, and thought this could easily become one of the better franchises in film history. Lionsgate really upped the ante and took the series in an extremely dark direction, which looks to continue in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 this November.

In this new viral video, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) gives his “Panem Address” as a propaganda-fueled televised spot. Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) stands by his side as they explain that resistance is futile.

Since the dark days our great nation has known only peace. Ours is an elegant system, conceived to nourish and protect… Your districts are the body, the Capitol is the beating heart. Your hard work feeds us, and in return we feed and protect you.

But if you resist the system, you starve yourself. If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed. I know you will stand with me, with us, with all of us, together, as one.

The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig.
