‘Gremlins’ Reunion Reveals Bizarre Effects Plans, ‘Black Lagoon’ Remake

Empire Magazine is hosting a Gremlins reunion in which the cast and crew got back together for a photo shoot, and to chat about the difficulties in making the 1984 classic.

While the Joe Dante-directed horror films may look easy to make by today’s standards, it was just as difficult as a time as Steven Spielberg had on Jurassic Park.

Dante reveals their initial plans for the Gremlins, which is pretty hilarious.

First we talked about stop-motion. Then realised we’d still be shooting if we did that,” Dante explained. “And at one point someone — I hope it wasn’t me — suggested we try monkeys in Gremlin suits.

But that one just had a Mickey Mouse head on,” Dante adds, although we can’t tell if he’s joking. “We actually did get a monkey and put a head on him and watched him careen around the editing room, pooping on everything in terror. We decided it wasn’t really going to work out.

Another interesting rid-bit is that Dante reveals that they had been working on a 3-D remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon back in the early 80’s!
