Briefly, Sony announced today that their ‘Sinister Six’ film would hit in 2016, followed by ‘The Amazing Spiderman 3’ in 2018. No reasoning was given for the shuffle, but I’m sure Roberto Orci leaving the project had something to do with it along with the less than stellar performance of Amazing Spiderman 2 this summer.
This is a move to try and broaden the Spiderman film franchise into something more bankable like Marvel has done with The Avengers, but I don’t know if an all villian installment is the answer they’re looking for. Studios need to stop measuring themselves against Marvel and do their own thing.
