Wesley Snipes Would Do Another ‘Blade’, Obviously
Wesley Snipes, who was released from prison last year after serving a three-year sentence for being convicted on tax charges, is making his return to the big screen when Lionsgate’s The Expendables 3 hits theaters on August 15.
Snipes, who was once considered an A-list action star, is grasping straws having just been seen in the direct-to-disc release of the troubled Gallowwalkers.
Now, he’s vocalizing his desire to return to the Blade franchise, which is only slightly bizarre considering it ended on a bad note when he allegedly tried to strangle Blade: Trinity director David Goyer during production on the 2004 sequel.
Ten years after the release, Snipes tells MTV that he would love to return to the Marvel franchise that saw much success through New Line Cinema’s releases.
I’d be open to it. We have some stones left unturned, and there’s some latitude for us to build on. I’d love to get back in the suit again and do some things that I’ve learned to do now that I didn’t know how to do then. I think we’re better at making that kind of a film now.”
I love the Blade franchise, especially considering Guillermo del Toro’s follow-up is easily one of the best sequels in cinema history. But, no matter how much we love them, I don’t see the franchise ever continuing as is, and by today’s standards it would be safe to assume a new Blade would be a remake. (The franchise is worth remaking as the first three films took over $400M collectively worldwide.)
Snipes’ career is in the toilet, so it’s pretty obvious that he’d love to play the ass-kicking’ half-vampire again. I just don’t think it’s realistic.
