This day in 1982 Jason Voorhees became a horror legend. In 1993 he went to Hell.
Steve Miner directed Friday the 13th Part III, the 3-D sequel that brought Voorhees back to Camp Crystal Lake with a bag over his head.
The prankster of the group, Shelly (Larry Zerner), brings a hockey mask only to have the joke end up on him.
Voorhees (Richard Brooker) then makes his first ever appearance rocking the mask, with red stripes, and resumes his path of destruction in what was originally planned to be the end of a trilogy.
Ironic as it sounds, on this day in 1993 Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday was also released. Easily the worst in the franchise, the film attempted to return to its roots by sharing a film without Voorhees through most of the second act. It was a terrible idea that could have left Jason in Hell forever. Thankfully, he returned for a trip to space and a battle with Freddy Krueger. Now, he’s awaiting his return in 2015…
