“How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse”
Created by Created by Naomi Shaw:
You might never find yourself being attacked by a bear, but knowing what to do if it happened could save your life. Likewise, although a zombie apocalypse might never wreak havoc on the world, it helps to know how you can protect yourself should you or your home be targeted.
Seal Windows and Doors
If you and your family are boarding up your home so that you can be safe within your walls, you’ll want to secure windows and doors as these are the most susceptible to a zombie attack. Make sure you set the alarm to notify you of any security breaks. It could also do you good to nail solid boards on the inside of your windows – don’t secure them on the outside as they’ll be ripped apart easily by a violent zombie.
Gain Visibility
Although you’re tempted to hide out and shut your eyes until everything blows over, you are going to have to make your home territory more illuminated so that you can see any zombie intruders before they’re traipsing through your home. This means keeping trees and bushes trimmed so that they won’t become handy hiding places for zombies, as well as using spotlights all over the garden, driveway and in any blind spots.
Get the Right Weapons
Remember in Dead Alive where lawnmowers were used to kill zombies? Although this ‘weapon’ or others like it might catch your eye when you’re hiding out in the garage because they promise fast damage, avoid using them. Opt for something more efficient with which you can strike zombies on the head, such as a bat or crowbar. It won’t create such a mess and could save your life by incapacitating them.
Stock up on Essentials
What can we learn from “The Walking Dead”? Besides for having the right weapons, you want to be stocked up on food in your home to prevent yourself from starving. Make sure you have lots of non-perishable foods, such as canned items, as well as foods that don’t expire for years. These include rice, so stock up on many bags of it.
Other than food, you’ll want:
1. Your medications, as well as medical kits in case you need emergency care.
2. Important documents, such as your driver’s license and passport.
3. A utility knife and duct tape. You can use duct tape in a variety of ways, from restricting a zombie should you get up close and personal, to making emergency flip-flops and even repairing a leaking boat.
You could probably make your life a lot easier by getting a tailor-made survival kit from Wise Company that contains all the important things you need when leaving in a hurry, such as a Swiss Army knife, sleeping bags, water filtration bottles, and lots of servings of food to keep you healthy when you’re fighting for your life.
Get to a Safe Zone
Any safety measures you put in place to keep your home secure are going to be short-lived in the case of a full-blown zombie apocalypse, which means you’ll need to move your family to a safe zone sooner rather than later. Some of the best cities to head to include Manhattan which, because it’s an island, can have its bridges shut down to keep people in and banish zombies from its territory.
Avoid Places that Aren’t Zombie-Friendly
Where are zombies going to go to satisfy their hunger for flesh? Stay away from the obvious place: cemeteries. Isolated areas, such as farms, might sound like a good idea, but zombies can walk long distances without getting tired and once they find you, you’ll be unable to get help because you’re far from other people. What about a shopping mall? A study found that such a location could boost your survival rate. That’s because shopping malls often have complex layouts, with many twists and turns, so you have a better chance of dodging the hungry zombie.
Dress to Kill (Literally)
When packing essentials for your move to a safe location, be sure to dress in a zombie-proof way. That means thick, multi-layered clothing made of materials that won’t rip or tear easily (especially if you’re unfortunate enough to become a zombie’s target).
By focusing on these important tips and tricks, you’ll be excellently equipped to outwit, 0utplay and outlive the zombies.
