There have been rumors swirling for over a season now that “The Walking Dead” badass Daryl Dixon – played by Norman Reeds – is gay.
Creator Robert Kirkman has tip-toed around this, teasing that it may or may not be true. Whatever the case, Dixon would still be one of the best characters on the AMC series, now in its fifth season.
On a recent episode of “Talking Dead” (wow, something important happened on the show!) Kirkman ended the controversy once and for all, explaining that Dixon is in fact straight.
“Daryl Dixon is being somewhat asexual on the show, he’s a very introverted character and I think that’s somewhat his appeal… I just wanted to make it clear that the possibility is there and I would’ve been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn’t do that. I can make it official, Daryl Dixon is actually straight, but coming back in the next half of the season we’re going to be introducing a very prominent gay character from the comics that’ll be debuting.”
The shocker is that, when “The Walking Dead” returns in February, we’ll be introduced to a gay character. I don’t know if the talk about Daryl’s sexuality is the reason behind the addition, but I like it. The show needs more realism and diverse characters to help bring it to the next level.
