Marvel Is Killing “Deadpool” In 2015

Published

on

Well just in time for his big screen debut, Marvel is putting the Merc with the mouth six feet below the ground. In April’s “Deadpool” #250 Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn will kill our favorite mouthy superhero in a way that is only fitting for the character. Honestly their run  has been one of the most exciting and thrilling chapters of this weird character’s history. They truly understand the humor, and the action needed for a real Deadpool adventure. I’m sort of bummed that he has to bite the dust, but maybe this new trend of killing their flagship characters (who they coincidentally don’t own the film rights too… cough, WOLVERINE, cough) shows signs of growth instead of regression.

I’m cautiously optimistic that perhaps we can push into new territory with this news. Like maybe getting the Fantomex ongoing we so rightly deserve. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

That’s right – if you add together all the Deadpool series (creatively), April’s DEADPOOL #45 marks Wade Wilson’s landmark 250th issue! How will he be celebrating? DEATH! No, really. Wade’s about to reach the end of the line, but he’s not gone yet. Prepare for a colossal-sized series finale the likes of which you’ve never seen before as Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn and more bid the Merc With a Mouth adieu, and explore the legacy he leaves behind.

First, Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn and Mike Hawthorne serve up a 30-page main story as, the villainous Ultimatum finally makes their move. They’re coming at Deadpool for revenge – all of them! And we mean ALL OF THEM. It’s going to be a bloodbath, but Wade’s not going down without a fight though.

“This is something we’ve been naturally building towards,” says writer Gerry Duggan speaking with Marvel.com. “This isn’t being done lightly. It always comes down to what we think is right and Marvel has been very king and gracious with us and let us get away with murder: in a literal sense.”

“I have no problem telling you I’ve always wanted to kill Deadpool and not just kill him but kill him in the way that we are killing him.”

Then – Gerry, Brian and Scott Koblish bring you a long lost, full-length Deadpool tale. Remember that time Deadpool got a hold of the Infinity Gauntlet? No? Don’t worry – we’re going to tell you. And yes, you should be very worried that Deadpool now has control over space, time and reality. First order of business? Summoning the entire Marvel Universe for the Roast of Deadpool.

Finally – a killer (pun intended) line-up of celebrities, comedians and friends of ol’ Wade have come to pay tribute to the Merc With a Mouth. Cap off Wade’s final adventure with new stories from Paul Scheer & Nick Giovannetti (Deadpool Bi-Annual), Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang Bang), Ben Acker & Ben Blacker (Thunderbolts, Thrilling Adventure Hour), Jason Mantzoukas (The League), Mike Drucker (The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon) and more!

This finale does sound incredible. I know I’ll be there for everything. What about you?
