Look, don’t get me wrong, I love Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as actors, but I don’t really want to see them return to the X-Men franchise.
Both X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of the Future Past are to be the first two in a new trilogy, but in order to segue into the new arcs, the duo were intricate parts of the puzzle. But, let’s be honest here, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, the younger incarnations of Professor X and Magneto, respectively, are the heart of the new trilogy. I could watch those two actors duel on film for an eternity and never get bored.
So, when news broke this weekend that Stewart and McKellen won’t appear in Singers X-Men: Apocalypse, I didn’t care. At all. In fact, I think it’s good as it gives more screen time to the other, more potent cast of characters.
Here’s what Stewart said the when asked about the film by Larry King:
“No. Nor Sir Ian McKellen, either. I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters. And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”
Now, can we get back to moping around knowing we won’t get to see Cable on the big screen?
