R.I.P. Edgar Froese Of Tangerine Dream Dies At Age 70

Sad news today as electronic pioneers Tangerine Dream have announced that founding member Edgar Froese has passed away at age 70. Froese died on Tuesday suddenly from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna.

The band wrote the following through their official Facebook page:

The sadness in our hearts is immensely.

Edgar once said: “There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address.”

Edgar, this is a little comfort to us.

Tangerine Dream was known for their amazing electronic albums as well as their fantastic film scores, which included Near Dark, Firestarter, Sorceror, and more.

I feel a sharp loss here as their score for Ridley Scott’s Legend is the reason that I’m obsessed with music today. I remember hearing the music during the opening sequence and sitting in front of a practice keyboard trying to figure out the chords and melodies by ear. The soundtrack was also one of the first records I actively sought out, ultimately needing to get it shipped overseas.

Rest in peace, Mr. Froese. Thank you for your amazing contributions to music. The world is a bit darker without you in it.
