‘Tokyo Tribe’ Is Part ‘Mad Max,’ Part ‘Step Up’ and Part ‘Warriors’ (Images)
Eureka! Entertainment have announced the UK & Ireland theatrical release of Tokyo Tribe, and has given Bloody Disgusting a batch of colorful stills.
Just when you thought Sion Sono’s (Cold Fish, Why Don’t You Play In Hell?) unique brand of subversive cinema couldn’t get any more out there, he’s back to explode expectations once again as he ventures even further into uncharted cinematic territory with an ingenious hybrid of Yakuza gang action and hip-hop musical.
“In a futuristic, alternate-world Tokyo, the city is made up of ghetto slums and nightclub playgrounds where gangs of wayward youth rule the streets. The city is carved up into ‘hoods, and the crossing of territorial lines quickly leads to riots and rumbles. On the turf ruled by the savage yakuza Big Buppa, the simmering tension is about to boil over into all-out war. Who will emerge victorious? Territory, friendship, pride, love… Everything is put on the line in a desperate struggle for supremacy!”
Based on a popular Manga series (“Tokyo Tribe 2” by Santa Inoue) and told almost entirely in rap verse (by some of Japan’s top rappers), Tokyo Tribe has to be seen to be believed. “The aggressive assault of the beats and rhymes wreaks havoc as a massive ensemble cast shocks, excites, and incites an unparalleled sonic war!”

‘Dead Mail’ Exclusive Images: SXSW Horror Movie Begins With a Blood-Stained Postal Box Delivery
One of the genre films we’re looking forward to checking out at SXSW this year is Dead Mail, written and directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy and premiering on March 9.
Meagan Navarro will be reviewing Dead Mail for Bloody Disgusting as part of her SXSW coverage, and she writes in her preview for the upcoming fest: “Dead Mail leans heavily into the ’80s analog aesthetic, delivering a unique crime thriller unafraid to get offbeat with its dark narrative. Expect its characters to be as atypical as Dead Mail‘s sense of style.”

“On a desolate, Midwestern county road, a bound man crawls towards a remote postal box, managing to slide a blood-stained plea-for-help message into the slot before a panicking figure closes in behind him. The note makes its way to the county post office and onto the desk of Jasper, a seasoned and skilled “dead letter” investigator, responsible for investigating lost mail and returning it to its sender. As he investigates further, Jasper meets Trent, a strange yet unassuming man who has taken up residence at the men’s home where Jasper lives.
“When Trent unexpectedly shows up at Jasper’s office, it becomes clear he has a vested interest in the note, and will stop at nothing to retrieve it…”
