We reported yesterday that Dario Argento would oversee a television adaptation to his 1977 Suspiria.
It sounded ridiculous at the time because, well, Argento isn’t exactly making good movies anymore, and the article made it very clear this was being developed (meaning, nothing is guaranteed). The chance of it coming into fruition are about as good as the Cubs winning a World Series (okay, maybe that’s a bad example… this year).
Anyways, I wasn’t all that excited about “Suspiria De Profundis”, an English-language period horror series in which the author Thomas De Quincey is the lead character. Styled as a new Sherlock Holmes, the story would explore psychological fantasies of evil and attempt to solve fearful mysteries. It will be set in London and Rome at the turn of the 20th century.
I was wrong, apparently, because “Hannibal” show runner Bryan Fuller made the following Twitter plea to handle the U.S. adaptation. While “Hannibal” is a huge success, his remake of “The Munsters”, “Mockingbird Lane”, failed, as did “High Moon,” “Pushing Daises” and “Dead Like Me”. But we still like him, like a lot a lot.
And those who have been following Fuller’s work know that he has colorful tastes, and reinventing Argento’s classic could be right up his alley. Thoughts?!
