First Look At Jamie Bell As The Thing In ‘Fantastic Four’

The lead up to Josh Trank’s reboot of the Fantastic Four is noticeably quiet. Details are scarce and with only a few months to release things don’t really seem likely to change anytime soon. Despite this, what has been revealed is thought provoking and holds a lot of promise. Trank’s comments on drawing influence from David Cronenberg is enough to get any horror fan in the door, but without much footage of this body horror, it’s tough to say if he’ll deliver.

Now, Empire has scored an exclusive look at Jamie Bell’s The Thing, from the upcoming reboot. The costume is anything but friendly and inspires a twinge of Cronenberg at first glance. Imagine being trapped in a craggy rock suit for the rest of your life, the sheer disillusion you’d have with your own form would be devastating.

Empire had this to sayIt’s a world away from the slightly rubbery suit that Michael Chiklis donned for the two FF movies back in 2005 and 2007. This time, Trank went down the mo-cap route, with Bell donning the dotted leotard, to better impart the rocky-skinned The Thing with Grimm’s personality and mannerisms. “Jamie in real life is a tough guy,” Trank told Empire recently. “He exudes this strength. Ben is Reed’s best friend in the archetypal, spiritual way, and you want that character to have that warmth and that strength.”
