“Traditional” survival horror has been making its quiet comeback for some time now, fueled by the growing number of developers who have chosen to favor carefully constructed scares and moody atmosphere over the more action-oriented approach to horror game design pioneered by franchises like Dead Space and Resident Evil.
Pixel horror has enjoyed substantial growth lately thanks to games like Claire, Home and Lone Survivor, to name but a few.
The wait for one of these games has finally ended, as Steam welcomed Uncanny Valley to its increasingly indecipherable ranks this week. Guided by its survival horror ancestors, the focus here is on the most familiar of genre staples, such as exploration and puzzle-solving, as well as the smart– and often involved — management of limited resources.
Uncanny Valley is available right now on Steam for $8.99 (that’s 10% off) until April 30.
