Director James Wan has gone from serial killers (Saw) to vigilante revenge (Death Sentence) to creepy dolls (Dead Silence) to some of the scariest ghosts stories I’ve seen (Insidious, The Conjuring). After all that, he ventured into the realm of fast cars and ridiculous action with Furious 7, which is on pace to becoming one of the highest grossing films of all time. And now he’s ready to move beyond this planet and head into the stars with Robotech!
While nothing is confirmed, Wan is currently in talks to helm a live-action version of the popular 80’s anime, according to Variety. Sony Pictures acquired the rights to the anime last month and they’re moving forward with Michael Gordon (300) writing a script and Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton producing.
Considering how prolific Wan is becoming, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was yet another film that proved his capabilities at handling whatever is thrown his way.
