‘Abattoir’s’ Jebediah Crone Resurrected In ‘The Dwelling’

Earlier this morning we shared an exclusive look at the sales art for Darren Lynn Bousman‘s haunted house horror Abattoir, which is currently in post-production and for sales at the ongoing Cannes market, reports Variety.

The movie is so hot that a sequel is already in development.

Bousman – who directed Saw II, III, IV, Mother’s Day, Repo!, The Barrens and 11-11-11) is set to write and direct The Dwelling, the sequel to his Abattoir, a high-concept haunted house-thriller based on the Radical Publishing comic book miniseries.

In The Dwelling, Dayton Callie will reprise his Abattoir role of Jebediah Crone (pictured), the enigmatic and evil man who buys homes where horrific tragedies have occurred. The Dwelling will take place some time before the franchise’s first film and will center on Crone’s character, unveiling some of his dark secrets and motivations.

“What is most exhilarating as a filmmaker about the universe of Abattoir is that it is steeped in a captivating mythology with our villain as the central character. This allows us so many different ways to tell stories in this world, each with its own unique point of view,” said Bousman.

Versatile’s Pape Boye and Violaine Pichon are introducing The Dwelling at Cannes and unveiling a 10-minute promo of Abattoir on Friday.

“With Abattoir and The Dwelling, the idea is to build a iconic horror franchise in the veins of Friday 13th and Halloween,“ said Boye.

Variety explains that the sequel will be repped in international markets by Paris-based Versatile, which is already selling Abattoir.

The Dwelling will be produced by Jesse Berger of Radical Studios, and Brent C. Johnson, who partnered on Abattoir. Kevin Niu, Rob Cain and Michael Yedwab will exec produce.

R-Rated The X-Files: I Want to Believe

After a slight delay, Disney has finally announced a new streaming date for the R-Rated director’s cut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe. According to Gizmodo, it’ll also come with a new title.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe Vrach Frankenshteyn begins streaming on Hulu on August 14.

The new cut was first teased in an interview with director Chris Carter on the Fail Better With David Duchovny podcast from last year, where he teased a much scarier movie he intended.

Now I have a chance to go back and make the scary movie that I always intended to make,Carter explained last year. It’s not just doing a Director’s Cut to do a Director’s Cut. It’s really kind of bringing to life something that for me was on the page and never got to the screen.

The director’s cut of the film was initially set to arrive on Disney+ in June, but quietly disappeared from the schedule without a word. Polygon reported the delay wasdue to some last-minute adjustments being made to the film.”

The release’s newVrach Frankenshteyn” title certainly suggests those adjustments have been made, likely referring to a Frankensteining of bonus footage.

In the film, Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) have been out of the FBI for several years, with Mulder living in isolation and Scully having become a doctor at a Catholic hospital, where she has formed a bond with a critically ill child patient.

When an FBI agent is mysteriously kidnapped, and a former Catholic priest who has been convicted of pedophilia claims to be experiencing psychic visions of the endangered agent, Scully is asked to bring Mulder back to the bureau to consult on the case because of his work with psychics.

The brand new R-rated cut willfaithfully restore the filmmaker’s original vision.

Look for it on Hulu next month.
