Reviewed by Brady Steele. Bloodshot Reborn #2 restores my faith in all things Valiant. This issue makes the titular character much more fascinating to watch. For once, an anti-hero’s legacy is NOT a good thing and the previous generation has to clean up the new one’s messes. Writer Jeff Lemire has renewed my interest in this series with a nice comeback issue.

Bloodshot has plenty of guilt ringing around his head for ten lifetimes. While no longer nanite-powered, this onus is manifesting in the forms of a dead love interest and a cartoonish sidekick. This is one psychologically scarred person with demons aplenty pushing him to stop others from suffering his plight. To me, Lemire makes this series feel like a super wet works / Dexter / Hulk combination which is now compelling to behold how far this will go.
Bloodshot is going insane and goes about stopping others from becoming killers at the same time by killing them. I’m not sure there’s another way to stop other Bloodshots from being created but chopping up their bodies and burning them is certainly one way to go. The art by Mico Suayan definitely showcases how grisly and dirty fighting to the death can be.
Now that this series has been setup, there are some more persuasive issues that can be raised. How much in control is Bloodshot? How insane is he going to get? How long until some of the bigger guns in the Valiant Universe notice and step in? I look forward to seeing where the blood splatters will take readers in the future.
