This past Memorial Day ended with the sickening news that New Line Cinema had pulled the plug on It, the latest adaptation of the Stephen King novella.
Location scouting was under way with “True Detective” director Cary Fukunaga taking the reigns, and Will Poulter (We’re The Millers) cast to play the villainous clown “Pennywise”.
And while the modern day take could be dead forever, King shared this uplifting thought that was just perfect.
“The remake of IT may be dead–or undead–but we’ll always have Tim Curry,” King stated on Twitter. “He’s still floating down in the sewers of Derry.”
Fukunaga’s vision for It was to create two separate films, one which tackled the protagonists as children and the second film to focus on them as adults.
When Warner Bros. handed the film off to New Line, there were alleged budget cuts that would take It out of New York. The weak opening of the Poltergeist remake, which also heavily used a clown in their marketing, is also said to be one of the main reasons Pennywise will remain in the sewers.
