According to Heroic Hollywood, Netflix is toying with the idea of having characters like Punisher, Blade, and Ghost Rider get their own shows on Netflix, much like their recent Daredevil series, which has received critical acclaim.
However, they have some concerns as two of those characters are rooted in supernatural elements, which would require quite a bit of 3D and possibly take the Marvel/Netflix “gritty dark” atmosphere and pull it into something a bit more goofy. Furthermore, all three titles are highly violent, which would push them from a “hard PG-13” into “R” territory, which then eliminates key demographic audiences. Then there’s the question if these characters can hold a full show on their own merits.
Currently, the plan is for a second season of Daredevil as well as their upcoming series AKA Jessica Jones. After that, we can expect Defenders, but not until 2017. Therefore, there’s quite a bit of time for Marvel to sort out their ideas and get everything aligned.
