‘Breach & Clear: Deadline’ Arrives July 21

Published

on

Back in January, Steam Early Access welcomed a new game to its intimidatingly crowded library of gradually evolving games with the arrival of Breach & Clear: DEADline, a post-apocalyptic follow-up to the popular tactical RTS game that released in 2014. In it, players must reclaim a city that’s been overrun by a mutant infestation before it consumes everything.

After nearly seven months of polish, developer Gun Media will take the game out of Early Access on July 21. If you’re not interested in dropping an extra $5 for the “final” release, you don’t need to wait until the end of the month to get it. DEADline is available now on Steam for $14.99.

While we’re on the subject of games made by Gun Media, it’s worth noting that with Breach & Clear out of the way, the next title they release may very well be their survival horror game Slasher Vol 1: Summer Camp, which has Kane Hodder doing what he does best: killing all the horny teens.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
