“Fear the Walking Dead” Details and Massive Image Gallery!

“The Walking Dead” fans prepare for an image explosion!

AMC has shared with us a massive batch of stills from “Fear the Walking Dead,” the Los Angeles-based spinoff that’s set to premiere on August 23rd.

The pics range from grabs from the pilot to behind-the-scenes shots and character portraits.

But the biggest gem we landed is news that the pilot, penned by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, was directed by Adam Davidson. Why is this a big deal? Well, it’s a fresh take on the zombie franchise. AMC and the showrunner decided to get new eyes into the world instead of taking a filmmaker who has worked on “The Walking Dead.”

We also learned that the pilot follows a highly dysfunctional blended family who are forced together when they realize a reported virus is actually the onset of the undead apocalypse.

Want more? How about an official synopsis? Boom:

Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark and English teacher Travis Manawa have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.

“Fear the Walking Dead” stars Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Sons of Anarchy”) as Madison, Cliff Curtis (“Missing,” “Gang Related”) as Travis, Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Nick and Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm) as Alicia. Also joining the cast as series regulars are Elizabeth Rodriguez (“Orange is the New Black”) as Liza and Mercedes Mason (Quarantine 2: Terminal) as Ofelia.

Much like “The Walking Dead,” “Fear the Walking Dead’s” first season will consist of six one-hour episodes. The second season will air in 2016.
