Showtime has confirmed that David Lynch will be directing all episodes of the upcoming third season of the beloved murder/mystery show “Twin Peaks“. While it was previously reported that the show could run up to 18 episodes instead of the original 9, that seems to now be in the air as the total number of episodes has yet to be confirmed.
Showtime head David Nevins told Collider:
I never had any doubts we were going to get him back. This was a huge priority project to me. It became clear that it was going to take more than nine episodes, which was the originally planned for and budgeted length of the series. I really wanted to get David to direct the whole thing, and he wanted to direct the whole thing. We had to work out the details.
What’s a little worrisome is that Showtime appears to be uncertain if they can make the original 2016 deadline. Nevins explains, “I’m hoping we make 2016. It’s not clear. It’s ultimately going to be in their control. They’re going to shoot the whole thing and then they’ll start posting… but I’m hoping sooner rather than later.
I’d be very bummed if we didn’t get “Twin Peaks” in 2016 but, then again, I’ll be happy to wait for something that everyone is 100% supportive and proud of.
