Jump scares can be an effective, albeit cheap, tactic for keeping a player on the edge of their Cheetos-stained seat. The horror adventure game Albino Lullaby is being considerably more original with its scare tactics by swapping out the gore and jump scares we see in so many horror games these days with a psychedelic color palette and monsters that look like thumbs with teeth.
This “Lynchian psychological nightmare” is set in a Victorian town inhabited by creatures called The Grandchildren. With a twisted narrative and a world that’s constantly changing, Albino Lullaby looks like one of the more original horror games we’ve seen this year.
It also has full VR support, if you’d really like to see the creatures’ butt chins up close.
Albino Lullaby: Episode 1 is available now on Steam for $9.99. For $24.76, you can get all three episodes and the game’s original soundtrack.
