‘Ghostbusters’ Animated Feature Still in the Works…

Published

on

Back in 2013 I told you guys exclusively that Sony was looking to create an animated feature based on the Ghostbusters movies.

Now, two years later, it appears this is still part of their massive franchise overhaul.

According to this tracking board, the Ghostbusters Animated Film is being produced by Tom Pollock and Ivan Reitman through their Montecito Picture Company, with Ali Bell and Kristine Belson overseeing for Sony Pictures Animation.

The animated action-comedy will follow a similar logline to that of the 1984 original, in which a group of scientists team up to fight off ghosts, using gadgets and gizmos to capture the menacing ghouls who have invaded Manhattan.

While the idea of doing an animated feature resurfaced in 2013, it was originally planned way back in 2007 with hopes of grabbing the younger crowd. It eventually resulted in the incredible 2009 video game.

With the popularity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it only makes sense for Sony to try and grab the kids in the same way a rebooted TMNT franchise has, and eventually turn that into a feature film.

The way I see it is that Paul Feig’s reboot – featuring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as the new ‘busters, and cameos by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver – is for us adults who grew up on the original i>Ghostbusters movie as well as “The Real Ghostbusters” cartoon, while this new animated feature will lay the groundwork for a new generation of ‘busters.

All of this madness will be worth it if Universal Studios brings back their Ghostbusters show that was so extraordinarily epic and cool.
