‘Escape from New York’ Remake Has Its Writer

Neil Cross, the creator of the BBC series “Luther” and writer of 2013’s Mama, has been tapped by 20th Century Fox to write the script for the Escape from New York remake. The film will be produced by Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman.

The original film, co-written and directed by John Carpenter, came out in 1981 and starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a man sent into a quarantined New York City to rescue the President of the United States after Air Force One crashes within its boundaries.

According to THR, the studio hopes to turn this remake into a new franchise, much like what they did with the Planet of the Apes films.
