‘Croak’ Stars Asa Butterfield as a Young Grim Reaper

Asa Butterfield

Rising British star Asa Butterfield (Hugo, pictured in Ender’s Game) has replaced Kodi Smit-McPhee in Croak, the first live-action feature from Oscar-nominated ParaNorman director Sam Fell, reports THR.

Smit-McPhee had been attached to star alongside “The Files” and “Hannibal’s” Gillian Anderson in Croak, which was introduced to buyers in Cannes by London-based Cornerstone Films, playing a young grim reaper living between the land of the living and oblivion.

Butterfield, who was also recently among the names floated as candidates to play Spider-Man, joins the comedy together with Stanley Tucci and What We Do in the Shadow‘s Jermaine Clement.

Cornerstone, established earlier in the year by Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder, is set to take the project to AFM next month.
