The MPAA has officially rated two upcoming horror films with a PG-13, which means so little in 2015.
Legendary Pictures’ Krampus, in theaters December 4th, is a darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday. Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty’s latest holiday offering received the PG-13 for “sequences of horror violence/terror, language and some drug material.”
In Krampus, starring Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Lavie Owen with Krista Stadler, “When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.“
Sony Screen Gems’ undead actioneer, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, set for release February 5th, 2016, got its PG-13 for “zombie violence and action, and brief suggestive material.”
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies focuses on the Bennett sisters – Elizabeth (Lily James), Lydia (Ellie Bamber), Mary (Millie Brady), Jane (Bella Heathcote), and Kitty (Suki Waterhouse) – several badass women who have been trained to brutally slay the undead.
The PG-13 doesn’t mean as much as it used to. Clearly, an R-rating means we’re getting some extreme violence or sex, but do either of these movies need that? Probably not.
