Matthew Modine Joins Winona Ryder in “Stranger Things”

Netflix’s new 8-episode supernatural drama “Stranger Things” has just landed Full Metal Jacket star Matthew Modine, according to The Wrap. Modine joins Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Heathers) and David Harbour in the series, which is about, “…a mystery surrounding a boy who vanishes and the ever-expanding government conspiracy that unravels in its wake.” Ryder is the boy’s mother while Harbour is the chief of police, who takes on the responsibility of investigating the disappearance.

The site reports that Modine has been cast as “Dr. Martin Brenner”, “a brilliant, enigmatic scientist who may or may not be connected to the boy’s mysterious disappearance.

“Wayward Pines” writers the Duffer Brothers (Matt and Ross) will be writing and directing all eight episodes, according to THR with “Last Resort” creator Karl Gajdusek acting as showrunner.

I’m curious how they’re going to turn a government conspiracy show into something supernatural. Then again, that’s kinda what “The X-Files” did and “Twin Peaks” had that to some small degree, so this could be very, very interesting!
