World War Z 2, the sequel to the 2013 zombie epic, is moving forward with “Utopia” creator Dennis Kelly penning the script, according to THR. This news comes a few months after it was announced that a draft script had been submitted.
The director will be J.A. Bayona, whose involvement was apparently on shaky ground until he was being eyed to direct Jurassic World 2. As a result, Paramount moved this project forward to keep him aboard.
The original film was directed by Marc Forster and was based on Max Brooks’ novel of the same name. The production was famously riddled with issues but that didn’t stop the movie from becoming a financial hit, generating over $540 million worldwide.
Brad Pitt, who starred in the original film, will be producing the film, which is set for a June 9th, 2017 release date. It’s not yet confirmed if he will be reprising his role as Gerry Lane.
